Franklin Lab's Printed CNT Tire Sensors Lead to Multi-Million Dollar Startup

February 20, 2018

The printed tire tread depth sensors invented in the Franklin lab have led to the financing of a multi-million dollar startup company: Tyrata, Inc. (www.tyrata.com). The sensors rely on the low-cost printing of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which provide enhanced sensitivity and high thermal & mechanical robustness.  PhD student, Joey Andrews, performed the research that led to the invention and Tyrata will now work to commercialize the sensors.  More information can be found in this press release: http://pratt.duke.edu/news/tire-startup
